Understanding the Dangers of Fire:

  • Statistics on Fire-related Deaths and Injuries
  • Causes and Prevention of Fires
  • Common Fire Hazards in the Workplace
  • Effects of Fire on People, Property and the Environment

Legal Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Occupational Health and Safety Act Requirements
  • Roles and Responsibilities of Fire control , Fire prevention and Fire Safety Officers in the Workplace
  • Fire Emergency Procedures and Evacuation Plans

Firefighting Equipment and Procedures:

  • Types of Firefighting Equipment
  • Inspection, Maintenance and Storage of Firefighting Equipment
  • Identifying the Type of Fire and Selecting Appropriate Firefighting Procedure
  • Fighting Containable/Extinguishable Fires
  • Retreating from the Fire Site and Handing Over to Appropriate Personnel

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of the dangers of fire, legal requirements and responsibilities, and firefighting equipment and procedures. They will be able to identify the type of fire, its context and select the appropriate fire fighting procedure.

They will also be able to identify, select and check appropriate fire fighting and safety equipment, fight containable/extinguishable fires, retreat from fire site and hand over to appropriate personnel. This course is ideal for those appointed as fire control officers, fire wardens or fire safety officers in the workplace, as well as anyone who wants to learn how to prevent and fight fires in emergency situations.
